It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir’s ‘H H Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji College of Horticulture, Malegaon’. The Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir Trust has (Established in 1952) started this college with Approval from Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri (M.S.) under the Maharashtra Agriculture University Act.1983, Sec.31 (11) vide No. Vidya -2/Kha. Manyata/1453/2013 dated 26/08/2013.
The college has been started for the upliftment of the farmers living in rural area. In the era of globalization of agriculture and Horticulture have to utilize modern methods and techniques to improve quality of produce and yield of the crops.
Horticulture is the main branch of Agriculture. It is the science and art of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants. It also includes Medicinal & Aromatic plants as well as Spices and condiments. In broad sense it is the cultivation of garden i.e. landscape gardening. Horticulture is the significant and upcoming sector in India. Horticulture has proved to be the best diversification option for agricultural land because of assured and the remunerative return to the farmers. Presently it has established the creditability in improving income through increased productivity, generating employment and in enhancing export besides providing household nutritional security. The focussed attention on investment in horticulture during last 20 year or so has been rewarding in terms of incresed prodution and productivity of horticultural crops with manifold export potential. India has now emerged as the 2nd largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world. Horticulture has invariably improve the economic status of our farmers and their lies importance.
The college provides an atmosphere not only for healthy academic activities but also for all-round growth and development of student’s personality.
Presently, the Institute is actively involved in teaching, research and extension to impart quality teaching and research-horticultural modules for the multi-dimensional development of the students and the farming community in and around the Maharashtra state.
We are bind to offer a quality education with more empharis on actual practical work. Now a days, recent teaching methods like posters, charts and power point presentation are addopted for better education of the students.
